HOTD: Hair of the Day

Front view
I thought I'd give you a closer look at my hair from my FOTD post from the back and sides because I really like the way it turned out.  It's just a simple messy bun that I put in using the Goody Spin Pins I recently blogged about having purchased.  I have to say, I'm rather impressed with them.  I had low expectations but high hopes and they really have been working well for me.  This hair style stayed in place with no touch ups or redos for over nine hours.

To achieve this style, I started out with second day hair.  I sprayed some Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo into my roots and brushed it out after it set.  I'm not a big fan of this product, but I'm trying to use it up.  I much prefer Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo or just plain baby powder.  Next, I used Garnier Fructis Style Anti Humidity Hairspray Flexible Control.  This is a flexible hold hairspray but it still holds well.  Yet at the end of the night, you can still get all that teasing out!  After spraying this in sections at the crown of my hair, I used a brush to gently tease the sections.  I also very gently teased the front sections together because the oil in my hair tends to make the front sections separate and look dirty.  By gently teasing them together, the hair stays as one piece.  Then I gently combed over that teasing so it looked smooth from the top.  Next, I pulled all of my hair into a ponytail (in my hands, no elastic) directly back from my ears.  Then I twisted the ponytail into a bun and secured it with the two spin pins, one spiraling down and the other spiraling up.  Then hairspray the whole thing into place and you're done!  I can't believe how messy-cute and simple this hairstyle is and I love that it keeps all of my hair up and out of my face and off of my neck for these super hot days!

I really just can't believe how well the spin pins held my hair and how nice it looks.  It makes me wish I'd tried them sooner!  Now I might have to pick up the mini spin pins for 1/2 up do looks!  For around $6, I think they are a great bargain, although if you have particularly long or thick hair, you might need two sets to get the hold you want.  My hair is neither of those so they work great for me.  If they continue to work this well for me, I foresee myself getting a lot of use out of them.
