A Change is Gonna Come

I'm a freak. I'll admit it. Taking photos of paper. If you read this post a few months ago you'll know that I'm starting my make up course tomorrow. After two months of college-free life and pretty much nothing to do, not only am I looking forward to being occupied but to learn about something I've been lusting over for years. I can't say I'm not a bit nervous, because obviously I am. But I'm also so excited to be finally doing it.

Like the obsessive compulsive I am (I jest), when I received my student handbook a few days ago I spent my whole morning reading and re-reading all the information it held. There is only one little problem with me embarking on this little adventure means that I probably won't have as much time to blog. I was thinking that every week I could do a tutorial/look that I had learned on Youtube, meaning I would be doing 'homework' and practising while still updating the auld blog. Just a thought. Writing is my favourite thing, so hopefully will have more time to do that!

Could I poke someone in the eye with a brush? Yup. Could I be the worst in the class? Yup. Could this all be a disaster? Yup. But I seriously hope not!

Wish me luck!x

Belles of the Ball

If you follow me on Twitter (joolie18), you'll know that last week myself and a few of my friends went to our college Arts Ball. I had been dying (quite literally) to use my new MAC Electra eyeshadow, and thought it was a great excuse to. I was possibly more excited to do myself and my friends' make up and get ready than for the night itself, but it was brilliant fun.

I completely forgot to take close-ups of my makeup before I left, as I was doing my friend's hair and make up too, but here's a few pictures so you get the idea:

Eyes:
MAC Painterly Paintpot
MAC Electra and Knight Divine e/s
MAC Typographic e/s (in crease)
Illamasqua Cream e/s in Stir (as highlight)
Sephora Black Liquid Liner (upper lashline)
MUFE Aqua Liner in Black (waterline)
Eyeko Big Eyes Mascara
Girls Aloud Kimberly Lashes

Sorry its been so long since my last post, I've been so busy with work and college that I've had no time to do anything else. Yesterday was my first day back in University to start my second year of my English and Drama Studies degree.

In a way I was dreading going back and another couldn't wait. I thought I'd do a quick face and outfit of the day to show you what I wore :)

My new hair and fringe features!

Face: YSL Teint Resist
MAC Melba Blush
MAC Harmony Contour Blush

Eyes: MAC All That Glitters, Twinks, Satin Taupe
MAC Coffee Eyeliner
Eyeko Mascara

I wore a baggy cream and grey top from Mango with jeggings, cream knee high socks rolled down and my boots.

Have you started back yet?! x

My home away from home & Revlon Mineral Finishing Powder

You guys, Chicago is amazing!  I'm all moved in (finally) and have been having so much fun.  Busy, but it's all really exciting.
Here are a few pictures I took "post" move-in, plus some of our view! (We're on the 17th floor)

My closet area

Bed/desk (I forgot to bring my "decorative" pillows, lol)

We have a teensy view of the lake, lol!

View down the street

At night

We made the trek to Target this afternoon and I found one of those Revlon Colorstay Mineral Finishing powders on clearance for $5.98!  They had it in the color Brighten- of course I had to get one.

This gives a really pretty glowy highlighted look to my face- I love it.  Do you guys have any of these?  I think they come in a couple different shades.

I went to the CVS across the street from me- it's pretty small and picked over, but I'm happy with it.  :)

Have a good weekend, everyone!  <3

Going, going, going (Rant & Smoky EOTD)

We're leaving for college tomorrow (My parents are driving me out there/helping me move in), so today is my cram day.  And by cram, I mean crazy nonstop packing.  There is so much that I keep remembering to pack and there's not much time left- I'm definitely a little stressed, but as long as I keep moving I think I'll be ready to go tomorrow.  We're leaving at 6:00am!  My boyfriend is coming over later tonight to go out to dinner with my parents and myself (We're celebrating my birthday before I go), so that's just less time I'll have.  I'm glad I get to see him, don't get me wrong, but it's going to be really hard to say goodbye.  I think every time we've hung out this week I've cried, lol.  Thank goodness for water-resistant makeup and eyeshadow primer!  That stuff didn't go anywhere!
Anyway, my point in telling you all this is because I probably won't have a chance to update for a few days (Unless I have time tomorrow night at our hotel).  I do have a few posts in mind and an EOTD/tutorial lined up, but I've got all my cords packed away.  I know you all understand but I'm actually sad I won't be able to blog!  I love coming on here and reading your updates as well as blogging myself.

I think that's all I needed to mention in this post- thanks for bearing with me, everyone.  Have a good day!
<3

Update:
I'm taking a little breather right now, so I just decided to get out my camera/cords and upload pictures of my makeup today.  I was going to give this a separate post but I think it'll be fine right here.
This is my interpretation of a "daytime smoky eye"- it has that smoky effect but isn't too dark for daytime.

What I used:
- VS Pro eyeshadow primer
- Clinique eyeshadow trio in Totally Neutral (Lightest shade all over/highlight, medium on lid, and darkest in "outer v" and to line lash lines
- L'Oreal Bare Naturale mascara in Black

I paired this with my Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Stellar Plum:

I actually just "uncovered" both of these products- I used to keep my makeup in my desk drawer because I'd do it there in front of my mirror, and when moving everything to my bathroom last year I left some things in my desk.  These were in there!  I love the lip gloss; it's pretty sheer but gives enough color to tell it's still a "plum" lipgloss.  There's a really good makeup artist who works at the Clinique counter here, and she recommended me this one.
Anyway, that's all I have time for.  Thanks again for reading!

Non beauty-related post: Preparing for college

Hey guys, today's post is going to be a little different and not about beauty.  It's about college and how I am (and still very much in the process of) preparing for it!  I'm definitely a procrastinator when it comes to school.... and getting ready to leave has turned out to be no exception.  I'm excited, don't get me wrong, but it's still a hassle having to pack and think about everything I'll need.
I'm hoping this will help any of you going away to school who are in the same situation as me, and find yourself not quite sure what to get/pack.  I know I'll happily take any advice I can get, and my 10-years-older sister has also been a great help!  She keeps reassuring me that I'll have time after I move into my dorm to get anything I forgot, in case it happens.

I have most of the necessities for my classes besides my textbooks.  I'm taking five classes, so I got my notebooks/folders for each of them, along with pencils and index cards.
The folders I got from Target, and the notebooks I got from Walmart and Walgreens (Walgreens has notebooks BOGO free this week!).  This is the one area I feel fairly prepared for.

In terms of dorm stuff.... not so much.  My mom and I did go out shopping yesterday and came home with quite a few things from my list, but I still don't have a comforter and other randoms.  Quite a few things we're waiting to buy once we get there and see what my room is like, though (Full-length mirror, blankets, decorations, shower curtain, etc).  We have towels, wash cloths, and other things like that here that I'll take with.

I'm quite pleased with the things we found, though!  At TJ Maxx I got a dry-erase/cork board, a shower caddy, and an organizer to put cards (and makeup palettes!) in:
I didn't tell my mom but that pink organizer will hold my ELF beauty book palettes perfectly.  Thanks Becky for the idea!  :)

Part of the reason I hadn't gotten more prior to this week is because I'm so darn particular.  I can't find the "right" bedding, and none of the decorations or dishes I found were unique enough.  We went to Target and I threw my hands up and just bought some things I really needed:
They have 4-packs of cups and plates for $1.99 each.  And they do have little designs on them, so they aren't totally plain.  Cute and cheap.  Sounds good to me!  I also got a bowl just to have for fruit and stuff.
This just screams "college" to me.  Yeah, I'll need these.

And the last thing I'll post here is the lamp I got for $14 at Target.  I didn't want to get a lamp before I found my bedding, but since I probably won't find bedding until I move, I gave in.

I also have a few other things I got, but I didn't want to make this into some kind of college 'haul' post.  These are items I know I'll get usage from on a daily basis.  And, I feel so much more prepared!

Are you going away to school?  What are you bringing?  I'd love to hear any advice you have.  Thanks so much!
