It's Caturday!

The kittens are now 4 weeks old and are getting so big! This little guy is the most advanced of the group, and has moved on to eating solid foods. Here he's eating kitten milk replacement out of a spoon, but he's also been getting into his mother's food bowl!

Unfortunately though, one of the little kittens, Cordelia, has developed an infected abscess on her backside. We took her to get it checked on on Thursday, and the doctor opened it up (eww!) and gave her some meds, but we took her again today to get her checked, and it's gotten worse. She needs to get it surgically removed on Monday. No idea why the poor little thing has it to begin with, but I hope she can recover with no serious problems ;(

Walmart Haul

I really wanted to do a haul video on this because I had a lot to say about each item, but my jaw is still way too sore from the wisdom tooth surgery to be able to talk unless I really need to, so in lieu of a video, I decided to do a detailed blog post.  All of the items were purchased at Walmart, and I tried to give you estimated prices, but remember that prices vary by location.

#1: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner (Under $3.00)
I have used this in the past and loved it.  However, recently I had purchased the Burt's Bees Hair Repair Shea & Grapefruit Deep Conditioner instead, which runs around $8.  I was trying to be more cruelty-free but I have to be honest.  The Burt's Bees conditioner SUCKED and Aussie is way cheaper and way better.  Until I find something more affordable that's cruelty-free, I'll stick to using the Aussie.  It works really well, is affordable, and smells great!

#2: Aveeno Nourish & Style Soft Hold Gel-Creme (Regularly around $7, I bought on clearance for $2!!)
Well for only $2, why not try it?!?  As summer approaches, I'm finding my usual curly styles have more trouble holding up to the heat and humidity so I wanted to try out some products that would help me out.  I recently tried a spray gel from Garnier Fruictis but it's totally hard and crunchy... not sexy words to describe hair.  I wanted something more soft hold and flexible and the price was totally right for something to try.  You may want to check out your Walmart and see if they have this on clearance too.  Smells very yummy to me and holds without being sticky or hard.  I'm hoping I might even be able to use it to scrunch my (rather straight) hair into some beachy waves.

#3: TIGI Rockaholic Fun Times Flexible Hairspray (Regularly around $20, I bought on clearance for $2!!)
Another product at a price I can't pass up!  I go through lots of flexible hold hairspray so I would have probably bought any brand at that price but when it's usually so expensive, I would like to see what the fuss is all about.  And I would NEVER pay $20 for hairspray just to see if it's worth the money because even if it was the BEST hairspray ever, I can't see myself spending that much on such a basic product.

#4: It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product (Around $30 at the Walmart Salon for the 10 oz. bottle)
Now this is a product I will spend an absurd amount of money on.  I SWEAR by this product!  (No, I am not sponsored by this or ANY company.)  It does 10 great things for your hair, including acting as a heat protectant and leave in conditioner.  It has helped my hair to not get split ends anymore and it's really one of the only products that I use everyday and can't live without.  It keeps my hair manageable, frizz free and soft.  All around great product and you use very little of it.  I bought the largest bottle because I do go through a fair amount and the larger the size you buy, the more you get for your money.  If you are interested in trying it, it is sold in many Ulta stores and also at the Hair Cuttery.  FYI: It's WAY cheaper to buy it at the Hair Cuttery and also, if you get your hair cut there, you can ask them to use it on you and try it out for free!

#5: Morton Coarse Sea Salt (Around $2)
I've really been wanting to acheive those natural looking beachy waves but it has been a total pain with my straight hair.  This time of year I always long to be one of those wavy-haired maidens who can just toss some product in and scrunch and look amazing.  But alas, my hair is straight and looks like a mess when I try that.  But as I was surfing YouTube while propped on the couch all week recovering from surgery, I saw several straight haired girls who said they get the same look by using "surf spray", which is really just salt water spray.  So then I started searching for DIY videos on how to make salt water spray.  Apparently it isn't too hard.  It seemed you could use epsom salts or sea salt.  Our kitchen was running low on sea salt anyway, so I picked this up to give the recipe a try.  I think this is the video I plan to use.  (By the way, you should check out TheSecretLifeofaBioNerd's channel!  She is awesome!!)  Hopefully the styling results will be good!!

#6: Purple 8 oz. Spray Bottle (around $1)
This is really just to put the salt spray in.  I chose purple because it's my favorite color!

#7: Olay 2-in-1 Daily Facial Cleansing Cloths for Combo/Oily Skin (Around $6 or $7)
This is something that my favorite beauty guru, emilynoel83 raves about all the time and I have meant to try for almost a year now.  Since my face is still really bruised and sensitive, I thought no time like the present to try these gentle makeup removing cloths.  These Daily Facials just need to be wetted and they claim to foam and wash away all of your makeup.  Right now I use makeup remover wipes (premoistened wipes) that you have to kind of scrub your face with to get the makeup off.  Right now my face is too sensitive for that kind of pressure.  I'm really hoping these work as well as Emily has raved that they do, but she's never let me down before!

#8: Almay Intense I-Color Liquid Eyeliner in Raisin Quartz, for Green Eyes (Under $7)
I have the same eyeliners in the shades Black Pearl and Brown Topaz and I love them! They are shimmery and soft looking for liquid liner but are super easy to apply and great quality!  I thought the shade for green eyes would look really nice on me and would be really different from anything else I have.  I have tons of shades of black, brown, gray, and white but nothing to really play up my own eye color.  Upon swatching, I think I'm in love.

Have you picked up any fun new items lately??  I'm thinking I need to go back on my makeup diet... this beauty addict needs a self-intervention!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Sally Hansen Salon Airbrush Legs Review

Last weekend I had a barbeque to attend at a friend's house.  As I live in Florida, the weather was calling for a sunny 85 degree (Fahrenheit) day.  I was thinking that was waaaay too hot for me to wear jeans outside but I didn't really want to wear capris with my BLINDINGLY white legs.  Don't get me wrong; I love my fair porcelain skin.  I have never gone tanning, and never will.  To me (not judging anyone who does love to tan!) it is pointless for me to purposely hurt my skin just to change the shade.  And I don't turn tan anyway... I burn then peel and turn back to pasty white!  But I thought rather than blinding the world with the sun reflecting off of my legs, I would give the Sally Hansen Salon Airbrush Legs a try.  This is considered "leg makeup" and what that means is that you spray it on and wash it off in the shower.  It is still water resistant, but it works instantly, unlike a tanning lotion that would have to cure first.  And since I am impatient and was out of time anyway, I thought instant sounded great.

I purchased this product in the shade Light Glow, which is for fair skin tones.  I have to be honest: I wasn't expecting much but I was really impressed!  It dries quickly, but you still have plenty of time to blend it in.  It did not look orange AT ALL but rather just gave me a slight shimmer and a bit of color.  It was just enough to still look natural on me, but add enough color so that my legs seemed to match the rest of me better.  And even after spilling a full cup of water on myself, (clumsy!!) the color did not come off.  In all, I was really impressed with the color, blendability, and staying power of this product.  I will definitely be keeping this close by for the approaching summer months.  The only real drawback was that it cost around $11 or $12 at Walmart, although I'm quite sure that is still less than a tanning package.  If you're looking for a quick way to add some color to your legs (the ever-present summer wedding season?) this is a great product!

A fairy tale: dreams really do come true!

The day an ordinary girl becomes a princess! Dreams really do come true. Never think the impossible in life. What a magical day in the world. Though I am American I have a lot of British blood from all 4 of my grandparents so guess what... I'm going to claim her as my princess, too... so there! :) Not really so don't get mad.

The thing I love most about Kate is her gentle nature and kind spirit...and the fact she is SO down to earth. I think it's amazing she did her own make up for her ROYAL wedding. That says a lot.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from today and a laugh at some of the hats
 {sorry... I can't help myself}.

This is my favorite picture! It captures her beauty, grace, joy and class.

So happy!
She is so beautiful!

Now on to the hats... I just don't get some of these!

The girl on the right wins the award for worst hat for the century!

Not sure about the hat Vic but the dress and shoes look ravishing on you!

Looks like a bowl.

I couldn't pull it off but I think it's really pretty!

Wills cousin Zara looks amazing from head to toe!

Hey! It's Mr. Bean! I think her hat is cute and love her shoes!

Very Kentucky derby... I like!

The woman on the right looks stunning and her hat is perfect for her.

Careful with that hat... might poke yer eye out!

The late princess Diana's nieces got it right! They look very feminine and beautiful. Adorable hats!

What a magical historic day!

Mermaid nails with a hidden treasure ;)

I've rediscovered my love for Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, guys.  I wore it maybe twice last summer (right after I found it by its lonesome on an empty display in Walgreens, haha- after searching for MONTHS) because I could never get the dang thing off!  I thought it was the polish back then, but just realized the other day that it was most likely a bad nail polish remover.  Last week I was wearing Hidden Treasure over Sinful Colors Nirvana, a muted chocolate brown, and it was a whole lot of gorgeousness.

My pictures of this are kind of bad, but:

After that experiment, and figuring out that it's not that hard to remove using a better polish remover, I tried it out over another polish!  This time it's Sinful Colors Mint Apple:

(Click to enlarge pictures for more detail!)

Hidden Treasure has always been hard for me to capture in pictures- the flakiness doesn't translate as beautifully as it looks in person.  The picture above on the left isn't color accurate, but it showed the cool effects of Hidden Treasure best.
It kind of reminds me of a mermaid, or something under the ocean!  I like it, and totally makes me excited for summer.  (It would make me excited for spring if we actually had it as a season this year... lol)

What are you guys wearing on your nails right now?

Matte Drugstore Eyeshadows

I'm really a drugstore makeup kind of gal.  I've always been thrifty, probably as a result of my low income childhood, but I just can't justify spending $14 on a single eyeshadow for myself.  I mean this in NO WAY to be disrespectful to those of us who love MAC, Too Faced, or other higher end brands.  I believe to each her own and I own some high end things myself, which I love.  Really, it all comes down to the fact that I am cheap.  Yup, I said it.  I don't like to spend a lot of money on things and I get pretty excited when I find a great product at a great price.  So here's my point.  I love drugstore and affordable makeup but recently have found that the variety is not always the same as with higher end products.  For example, I really wanted to expand my collection of matte, neutral shadows and the drugstore selection is... well... lacking.  So I've shopped my local store and my own stash and came up with some drugstore and inexpensive shadows that are all great matte shades.  I hope you enjoy!

The first one from Wet N Wild's Color Icon Collection.  The shade is Brulee, which is a really smooth cream shade.  This is one of my favorites.  It's super inexpensive (usually under $2) and blends really well.  It makes a great lid, highlight, or all over shade.

This one is from Maybelline and is the shade Earthly Taupe.  It's a great natural shade for the lid or the highlight, if you have darker skin than me.  Perfect medium tone.  It retails for around $3 from Walmart.com.

This gorgeous deep brown matte shade is a CoverGirl single in Brown Smoulder.  This is one of those shades that I have to have in my collection.  It is so multi-purpose, pigmented, and easy to blend.  This is a perfect crease or liner shade for any look, but I especially love the way it looks with other matte shades.  You can pick it up at Walgreens.com for around $3.50.

This Maybelline trio in Almond Truffle is really natural and I love the lid shade, as it is really unique.  It's sort of a lavendar taupe gray shade.  This palette works well on it's own and is under $6 from Walgreens.com.

Physician's Formula Matte Collection Eyeshadow Quad in Canyon Classics is on the pricier side but the shades are really good quality and super blendable.  The dark brown is very cool toned, which can sometimes be hard to find in drugstore matte shades.  This product retails at CVS.com for around $7.

This last one I just picked up yesterday and haven't had much chance to use it, but the shades definitely have some pigmentation to them and are soft and smooth.  This is L'Oreal's Canyon Stone, which is the palette that got me started thinking about this whole drugstore matte blog.  It runs under $5 at Walmart.com.

Hope this gives you some ideas and please feel free to share in the comments about any drugstore or affordable matte shadows that you love!!
