EOTD: Easy double-winged eyeliner

This is a little stretch compared to what I normally do in terms of eye makeup.  OK, big stretch!  I never do colored liner on my bottom lash line, but I decided to try it.  My next challenge would be to actually wear this out!
I was inspired by a blurb in the new InStyle magazine (with Katie Holmes on the cover) about graphic eyeliner on the runway.  The models shown had thick, winged eyeliner in bright colors.  Theirs was a lot messier than the look I did, so I'll have to try that sometime soon too.
Anyway, for this look I kept everything else simple and focused on making the eyeliner/wing the most important piece.  I used a few different skin toned shades from my Coastal Scents 88 matte eyeshadow palette- I think the matte finish helps make the overall look more refined.  I used the smudge end of the Covergirl Liquiline Blast eyeliner to help create the wing shape, and geesh, smudge-tips are my saving grace!  They make applying eyeliner so much easier.

EOTD inspiration: using one eyeshadow

This EOTD was inspired by Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog's recent look, using NARS Outremer eyeshadow (which is part of the Fall 2011 collection).  All of her looks are gorgeous, but the simplicity and awesomeness of this one in particular made me try it out myself!
The basic premise is taking one bold eyeshadow and creating a simple, super-dramatic eye.  When you use a vivid shade like NARS Outremer (like Karen did- a deep blue- it's the only eyeshadow you really need to make an entire look.  I don't have a color like Outremer so I opted for a deep teal green (Revlon matte eyeshadow in Tempting Teal), which has a similar-looking finish and depth.  I also made my more wearable for daytime- I didn't wing out the shadow in the form of a cat eye, and I blended it out a little more than I would if I was going out, kind of like Karen did.

 I apologize for the glassy eyes- I was dealing with some personal issues last night, and this morning I was welcomed with red/puffy eyes, nice!

Two EOTDs: something different and a daytime smokey eye

I've been playing around some with my Darling Girl Cosmetics samples since my order arrived a couple weeks ago.  It's so fun!  Except most of the looks I've done aren't so interesting- I'll use one DGC shadow and mix it with another brand, or just use the DGC shadow all over (because they're so pretty by themselves..!).  Yesterday, however, I forced myself to get a little creative and put together this EOTD.

I love it all besides for the inner corner, which is actually a champagne Sally Beauty eyeshadow that I used all over my lid and into the crease (I was going to do a really simple eye look and then changed my mind!).  For some reason the photos make that shade look orange, but in real life it looks like a soft champagne.
My silly camera actually washed out the colors of this look a lot- for example, the teal on my lower lash line is really the matte green from Wet n Wild Pride 6-pan eyeshadow palette.  It's a pretty vivid green!  But my pictures totally don't capture it. -_-
Anyway, let's get on with the pictures and I'll stop my rambling.

I love doing looks like this that incorporate colors but make them wearable.  Bright shades usually intimidate me, but they're super easy to pull off with a lighter hand!

This next look is one I did today; it's a simple daytime smokey eye using the ELF Studio cream eyeshadow in Dawn as a base.  And please note!  The eyeshadow isn't creased, it's my silly eyelids.  If I don't hold my eyes a certain way when taking pictures, they bunch up like that.  (And my eyebrows... I need to clean them up, which I realized after taking these, LOL)

EOTD: Smokey, summery green & gold

Hey guys!  This is an EOTD from a couple weeks ago, actually- I can't believe it slipped my memory for this long!  I cropped and put the photos together right away, meant to post them, and then had a million other ideas for posts and this one got sent to the back burner.  Anyway, I really loved this combination of olive green and gold (as easy as it is!), so I still wanted to get it up here. :)

EOTDs with the UD Naked palette!

I've had a lot of fun playing around with the Urban Decay Naked palette since I got it a couple weeks ago!  Like I promised, here are a few different looks I've done with it.  I tried to vary them as much as possible for this post (one very simple, one a little more involved, and one a light smokey eye), but I'm really excited to try out a dark, smokey eye when I have the chance.  Since it's gotten warmer I've been either doing brighter looks or really easy/light looks.

Look one: Simple wash of color with colored eyeliner

This was the first look I did using the palette.  I love using Creep around my lash lines to soften up black eyeliner.  It also makes the perfect base for a neutral smokey eye.

I plan on doing some product reviews as soon as I get the energy- probably tomorrow night or this weekend.  I just started my new job today, and I'll be getting plenty of hours right off the bat!

Tackling spring/summer makeup trends: Yellow eyeshadow

Like my last post in this series about coral lips, this post is focusing on a spring/summer trend that I'm trying to successfully pull off.  And in the process, I can hopefully share with you an idea for how to do it yourself!  

In this post, I tried to recreate the yellow eyeshadow trend two different ways.  The first is a more toned down version, and the second is something very out of the ordinary for me- it's bright!

(I'm not totally in love with this first one now that I post this, haha.  The brown kind of makes it look like... a bumble bee?  Now I know for next time, ha!)

Look one: paired with browns

Products used:

-Almay Bright Eyes eye base+concealer

-NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (matte white base)

-Golden yellow shimmery eyeshadow pigment (Sample I got from a giveaway last year)

-Coastal Scents 88 palette (matte cream, bright yellow, light yellow, chocolate brown, medium bronze)

-NYX Ultimate Pearl eyeshadow in White Pearl (shimmery white)

-Covergirl Liquiline Blast eyeliner in Brown Blaze

-L'Oreal Double Extend Illuminator mascara for green eyes

First I primed my eyes and applied a matte white base so the colors would show up better.  Then, I applied a shimmery golden yellow pigment eyeshadow all over my lid.  I blended it into the crease and then applied a satin pale yellow shade in the crease.  I highlighted my brow bone with a matte cream shade, topped with a shimmery white shade that I also put in my inner corner to brighten.  I did the pale yellow shade along my lower lash line as well.  I followed with a chocolate brown shade (applied with my ELF definer brush-any sharp angled brush would also work) in the very outer corner, creating a precise line along the outer edge and crease areas.  I blended this slightly into the yellow using a bronze shade.  Then, I lined the very outer edges of my eyes creating a slight wing using a dark brown eyeliner. To finish, I curled my lashes and applied a black mascara.  

Look two: paired with teals

Products used:

-Almay Bright Eyes eye base

-NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk

-Golden yellow shimmery pigment eyeshadow (same as look #1)

-Coastal scents 88 matte palette (light yellow, same as look #1)

-Physicians Formula Shimmery Strips eyeshadow for green eyes- Pop! collection (bright teal)

-Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon eyeshadow palette in Pride (shimmery medium teal)

-Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon eyeshadow palette in Vanity (shimmery gold, bronze, and matte cream)

-NYX Ultra Pearl eyeshadow in White Pearl (shimmery white)

-Victoria's Secret eyeliner in Dark Brown

-L'Oreal Double Extend Illuminator mascara for green eyes

First, apply your eyeshadow primer all over your eye area.  Follow with a matte white base all over the lid area and along lower lash line.  Apply a bright golden yellow eyeshadow to the lid, stopping about 1/4 of the way from the outer corner.  Blend a pale lighter yellow shade above the previous yellow, blending into the crease, and on the inner 1/4 of the lid.  Tape off the outside of your eye so the outer eyeshadow colors create a sharp line.  Take a bright teal shade and pack it on the outer 1/4 of the lid, creating a sharp line where it meets the yellow.  Blend this out using a shimmery medium teal shade above the crease and to blur the lines.  Apply a shimmery white eyeshadow to inner corners.  Then, apply a matte cream eyeshadow to the brow bone.  Take the golden yellow, shimmery gold, and bronze shades underneath the lower lash line, applying lightest to darkest.  Follow with a deep brown or bronze eyeliner on the outer corners of top and bottom lash lines, and mascara.

Adding the teal to this look was a big leap for me- like corals, teals are another color family I'm terrified of.  I actually couldn't think of a better color to pair the yellow with that would give enough contrast, though.  I like how it turned out for a bright, summery look!

I hope the explanation helps a little.  I only included that this time because the looks were a little more involved than most looks I do.

EOTD: Magenta and teal

I've been doing this same technique with all my eye looks this last weekend and I really like it!  I've just used different colors.  I have two more variations that I'll show in a separate post, but for now, this is the one I did today.

(Excuse the state of my eyebrows; they're terrible, I'm sorry!)

Products used:

-Almay Bright Eyes eye base+concealer

-NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk

-Coastal Scents 88 Matte eyeshadow palette (medium magenta, light lilac, cool taupe, matte cream)

-Revlon Matte eyeshadow in Tempting Teal (deep matte teal green)

-ELF Mineral eyeshadow in Earthy (shimmery medium sage green)

-MAC Eye Kohl in I Get No Kick (shimmery champagne eyeliner)

-Victoria's Secret eyeliner in Dark Brown

-L'Oreal Double Extend Illuminator mascara

First, prime your eye area and apply a matte white base for the eyeshadows.  Apply a magenta eyeshadow to the lid area, stopping just short of the inner and outer corners.  Blend this out using a lighter lilac shade in the inner corners and throughout the crease.  Tape off the outer edge of your eyes.  Place a deep matte teal or green shade on the outer corner of your lid, creating a slight "outer v" shape using the tape as a guide.  Then, use a crease brush to apply a shimmery medium sage green shade to the outer part of your crease, lightly blending the magenta and teal together.  I had to go back over the magenta and teal again after this part.  Apply a matte cream highlight shade to your browbone and inner corners.  Remove the tape from your outer eyes.  Next, line your waterline and inner corners with a shimmery champagne colored eyeliner.  Take the same magenta you used for your lid and apply it lightly along the lower lash line, followed by a cool taupe shade in the outer corners (to add more depth- I also think this makes the whole look more flattering!).  Line the outer half of your upper and lower lash line with a deep brown or bronze eyeliner, creating a wing, following the shape you created with the eyeshadow using the tape.  Finish with black mascara and you're done!

I'm also thinking of placing an order for some Fyrinnae eyeshadows- I'm loving the brighter eyeshadow colors for summer, and I've heard such great things about these indie makeup brands.  Do you guys have any recommendations for Fyrinnae, or another brand you love?

Quick EOTD: Neutrals with a green crease

Hey guys- just a quick post before I go to sleep.  This is actually a look I did last Friday, but I've been frantically running around with my head chopped off (at least it feels that way) that I never got around to posting it.  I've been crazy busy with finals- tomorrow is my last day before summer!- which explains the extreme lack of posting around here.  I'm so, so sorry!  I do plan on doing posts on my skincare routine, empties, and products that I wouldn't recommend just as soon as I've wrapped up the semester completely.
(PS- I'll hopefully get around to posting about some of the projects I completed this semester and how my classes were- to sum it up, the semester ended really well.  So much better than I thought.  Let's just say that I pushed myself pretty hard in my classes, and my efforts paid off. It's probably one of the best feelings ever!)

Anyway, with my lack of time for getting ready lately, my makeup has been super simple.  This was a look I did that I was actually able to spend more time on, yay!

EOTD: Purple sunset

Purple used to be my ultimate favorite color to wear on my eyes.  I had it in my head that it was the only color that really made my green eyes pop, so I wore it in the form of eyeshadow or eyeliner any chance I had.  Lately, things have changed a little and I wear more neutrals (or muted olive/bronze shades) to bring out my eye color.  Makeup aside, purple is still my favorite color, so I'm naturally going to be drawn to it.  Today I decided to do a little more "involved" look (my makeup has been so boring the last week!) since I had some extra time to get ready, and I love how the colors came together.  They kind of remind me of a sunset, except using all purple. ;)

EOTD: Shimmery bronze/purple

I have yet another EOTD for you all today!  I'm having a fun time experimenting with my everyday looks, trying to make them interesting yet still wearable.  This is my favorite kind of eye to create because you can take it anywhere (Although I do need to branch out and try different things with my looks, so I have a variety on my blog)!  Today, I played around with some eyeshadows I haven't used in awhile, which was fun.  I've been getting so much wear out of my newer ones (Hello Wet n Wild Comfort Zone?) so it was nice to give some attention to the products that have gotten lost in my collection.
I'm so glad I have my blog right now.  I haven't had a lot of time to hang out with people, and because of that it's been great to still have some kind of outlet!

Two EOTDs and what I've been up to (outside of makeup!)

....And the neutral eye looks continue!  As most of you probably can tell, I rarely do vibrant/dramatic looks.  The last several EOTDs I've posted here have been exceptionally neutral because I've just been taking pictures of my everyday looks.  My goal has been to post more EOTDs on my blog, so this is the easiest way I can do that (I don't have the time anymore to experiment like I used to).  I still think you can have a lot of variety and fun with neutrals, though.  I hope you can see that a little in my EOTDs this week!

The last few weeks I've made small mentions of how busy my schedule is, AKA my excuses for not being able to blog as much.  Well, I just finished my first big project for my fundamentals of fashion design class, which was taking up the majority of my physical and emotional energy.  My workload is more stressful and involved than anything I've ever done before (and I want to scream half the time- the other night I had a minor mental breakdown, but it's better now!), but it's also incredibly exciting.  This got me thinking that it might be fun to share with you guys a little of what I've been up to in my classes.  

First up, this is the project for my fundamentals of fashion design class I mentioned above.  The idea behind it was to reflect the four elements of fashion design- color, line, texture, and shape. 

(I took these before I finished, so I don't have the fourth board pictured, whoops!)

This next picture is what I'm working on for my garment construction class- we're making shorts!  These are just two darts we're going to be using in the shorts (I'm actually farther on making them now, I just forgot to snap pictures.  Maybe when I'm done I'll post about them, if they turn out haha).  It's really an awesome learning experience- I actually feel like I'm learning as opposed to sitting at a desk and taking notes and forgetting everything later.  I mean... that doesn't ever happen. ;)

So, Tuesday night my Macbook decided to give me problems- it wouldn't start up.  I tried going through the troubleshooting options on the Apple Support website but nothing worked.  Half of yesterday was spent calling Apple Support and then in the Apple store downtown, and finally the guys figured out it was my screen backlight that blew out.  Thankfully everything on my hard drive was fine but I still had to either pay $400 to fix it, or just get a new one.  I decided to get a new one- I had been moaning and groaning about the state of my Macbook for the last six months (I dropped it twice off my bed so the CD drive was dysfunctional, and the exterior was wearing off in several places), so this was the perfect excuse. ;)  Anyway, I was without a computer for a couple days but now I'm happily typing away on my new Macbook!  I've done pretty well lately with not spending money, so although I'll still have to scrimp and save for awhile, I think it's worth it.

Now that I have a computer to blog on again, I wanted to post up these EOTDs I've done using the new Wet n Wild Comfort Zone palette.  This is seriously my new favorite, guys.  The colors go beautifully together (and really make my green eyes pop!), and there are many different options with the 8 pans.  I knew I would probably love this one, but I didn't realize how much until I used it myself!  I also used the my two Victoria's Secret eyeliners and same mascara for all of these, as noted below the pictures.

Comfort Zone palette for reference:

-Browbone olive/taupe shade all over lid and into crease

-Browbone shimmery cream shade for highlight and inner corners

-Definer duochrome reddish brown/green shade in outer crease

-Crease deep shimmery olive shade smudged on top of eyeliner along upper lash line and outer lower lash line

-Eyelid grassy green shade on lower lash line

-L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascara in Black

I love how you can do a smoky, nighttime eye AND a neutral, daytime eye- and different variations of each!  If you're a lover of wearable neutrals, I definitely recommend this palette.

FOTD/EOTD: Hello Physicians Formula

Having done several muted, smoky daytime looks this week, I woke up this morning with an urge to use some pops of color!  Today was the perfect day to try something random as I didn't have anywhere I really needed to go (besides a local outdoor store to get this Mountain Hardwear jacket!  So exciting!).  So, I pulled out one of the few "bright" eyeshadow palettes I have here, my Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips for Green Eyes Pop!, and got to it!  I actually thought this look would be much more vibrant before I started, and when I finished it's not that at all.  Definitely colorful, but wearable enough.
I also ended up using three different Physicians Formula products here, hence the title of the post.
(Side note:  please excuse my unusually dark eyebrows in these pictures!  I filled them in a little today, which I normally don't do.  I really love what I use- MAC Impeccable Brow pencil in Taupe- but I don't think I need to fill in my entire brow, lol.)

(I used the top three colors, for reference)

Face:

- Maybelline Mineral Power powder foundation in Ivory 2-3

- Revlon Colorstay Blemish concealer in Fair

- ELF Studio Complexion Perfection powder (I actually don't really like this- just a note)

- Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon blush in Pearlescent Pink 

Eyes:

- VS Pro eyeshadow primer

- Light violet from Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips eyeshadow for Green Eyes, Pop! collection

- Lime green from PF

- Frosty white from PF

- ELF mineral eyeshadow in Confident (a deep shimmery grey-ish taupe, outer corners)

- Violet eyeshadow from 88 Matte palette (I used this over the violet from the PF palette because I wanted the color to pop more, and the PF wasn't doing it.  I also put this along my lower lash line)

- Matte cream eyeshadow from 88 Matte palette (as base highlight along brow bone.  I put the shimmery white from the PF palette over this)

- Physicians Formula Gel/Cream eyeliner for Green Eyes, purple shade

- Physicians Formula Organic Wear mascara in Black

- MAC Impeccable Brow pencil in Taupe (brows)

Lips:

- Burt's Bees shimmer lip balm in Watermelon

EOTD: Colors! part two- pinks and purples

These last two EOTDs have seriously been a leap outside of my comfort zone.  I think it's great to branch out from the usual every once in awhile, though, don't you?  This was another experimental look that I realize is still very tame and wearable, just containing some "brighter" colors.  I used my Coastal Scents 88 Matte palette for all the eyeshadows, with exception of my Lancome eyeshadow in "The New Black"- it's a shimmery, sparkly black that I used sparingly in the outer corner (you can hardly even see it in these pictures).

What I Used:

- VS Pro eyeshadow primer (trying to use this up so I can fully move on to my UDPP!)

- NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk as base

- Eyeshadow #1 all over lid

- Eyeshadow #2 in outer 1/2 of lid and blended up into crease

- Eyeshadow #3 in crease

- Eyeshadow #4 in inner corner/brow bone highlight (pale silver- the picture above distorts the color a bit)

- Eyeshadow #5 along lower lashline, used wet (silver)

- Lancome The New Black eyeshadow in outer corner

- Wet 'n' Wild Mega Eyes cream eyeliner in Black

- Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express mascara in Glam Black

EOTD: Colors! Where have you been all my life?

Tonight was... extremely uneventful to say the least.  I decided it was the perfect time to break out one of my most "daunting" eyeshadow palettes (containing colors I'm almost afraid to leave the house in) and try to make a wearable look!  This is using my Covergirl eyeshadow quad in Tropical Fusion, which includes a vivid dark blue, turquoise, orange, and lime green.  I also added a few other colors in to make the colors blend better together.  I think it turned out OK, but I know it's not perfect- I seriously need to work on mastering these more "vibrant" looks.

 

What I used:

- UDPP original

- Covergirl Tropical Fusion eyeshadow quad (orange on lid, turquoise in crease, dark blue in outer corner, lime green above crease to blend; turquoise and dark blue along lower lash line)

- Dark blue pigment (in outer corner; got this in a sample along with a giveaway I won from Winnie this summer- I think it was from eBay, like a MAC pigment dupe?)

- ELF Elegant mineral eyeshadow (brow bone highlight and inner corner/lower lash line)

- Jane Be Pure mineral gliding eyeliner in Coal 

- Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara in Black

- Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express mascara in Black

This definitely makes me want summer!  It can hurry along as fast as it'd like in my opinion.  :)
